Jennie Nichols lives and trains in Sachse, Texas, and her most recent race was the Chicago Marathon.

How was your training leading up to the race?

My training was awesome. I have never been an athlete and got into running toward the end of 2020. Melissa King became my coach at the beginning of 2022 after coaching my boyfriend for the 2021 Chicago Marathon and 2022 Houston Marathon. She gave me excellent workouts to help me grow as a runner and get ready to complete my first marathon.

Did the V.O2 app provide benefit to your training and racing?

The V.O2 app helped me track the different types of workouts and my progress throughout training. I was able to leave messages and feedback with my coach through the app and always enjoyed checking the complete box for my workouts.

Talk to us about a recent race or your progress in general! How did it go? What were your goals going into it and did you meet them?

My race was absolutely amazing! My goals were to finish the race before the cut-off time, feel good throughout the race, and enjoy myself. I felt good throughout the ENTIRE race, smiled in all my pictures and had so much fun throughout it, and my finishing time was 6:18:14. For my first marathon, this was the absolute DREAM experience!

Is there anything you learned from your recent training or race that can help you improve in the future?

I learned that I am more capable than I thought I was. I am a runner; I am an athlete! I can’t wait to conquer my next goal and my next marathon!

Who is your coach and what have you learned working with them?

Melissa King. I have learned that I am able to do hard things; that I can be the healthiest and best version of myself and that I am an athlete!
